Problem Statement

FitCoach, a web-based SaaS platform for coaches, faced challenges with its existing calendar interface, which was cluttered and lacked clarity. Coaches struggled to efficiently track the progress of multiple athletes and found the design unappealing.

Target Audience

  • Running trainer

  • Athlete's coach

  • Trainer who wants to track running record of set of people

  • Personal Training teacher

Qualitative Interview Output

Scenario 1:
A coach manages 10 athletes, seeking a consolidated view of each athlete's past workout sessions without spending excessive time tracking individual progress.

Scenario 2:

A coach finds the existing cluttered calendar unappealing, especially when a course is completed, and desires a cleaner and more visually pleasing design.

Analysis

The analysis revealed that coaches needed a simplified, consolidated view on the calendar to gain clarity about athletes' past workout sessions.

This view should include key information like athlete name, plan name, date, progress ratio, average metrics, and activity compliance for each past workout.

Design Goals

1. Simplify the calendar interface.
2. Provide a consolidated view of athletes' past workout sessions.
3. Maintain a clean and uniform design.

Calendar Top Bar

Designed wireframes that included a top bar displaying essential information about each athlete's plan, progress ratio, average metrics, and activity compliance. It made easier to get past workout summary without the need to open individual activities.

Completely Filled Calendar

One of the design challenge was to make a calendar showing a month full of completed/missed workouts as simple and minimalistic

Old calendar filled with past activities

  • Tesler’s Law, also known as The Law of Conservation of Complexity, states that for any system there is a certain amount of complexity which cannot be reduced.

  • Ensure as much as possible of the burden is lifted from users by dealing with inherent complexity during design and development.

Completely filled calendar with opened templates option on the left side. With added compliance to each past activity.

Usability Testing

We conducted unmoderated in-person usability testing, resulting in:

7/10

Coaches finding the new calendar pleasing and easy to use.

90%

Coaches appreciating the top bar feature for providing a comprehensive overview without opening individual activities.

60%

Coaches favoring the redesigned calendar over the older version.

Summary

  • The FitCoach calendar redesign successfully addressed the coaches' concerns

  • Providing a more efficient and visually appealing solution.

  • The consolidated view on the top bar received high approval, indicating improved user satisfaction and usability.

  • This case study demonstrates the positive impact of user-centric design on enhancing the user experience for coaches within the FitCoach platform
